Encourage Safe Driving And Save Your Company Money
Your company may spend thousands of dollars a month on fuel costs, payroll and vehicle maintenance, but a major accident could cause your overhead spending projections to skyrocket. Accidents can happen whether or not you have a safe driver behind the wheel. As such, your company should still work diligently to avoid collisions at all costs. If you have already sent your drivers to supplementary driving education classes, the next best thing you can do is to implement a fleet management system. Many transportation companies use some form of fleet management to keep their drivers on schedule, but the vast majority use humans instead of software. In the beginning it may be more cost effective to just hire more support staff, but as time goes on you will see that people are much more likely to make costly errors than a reliable program.
Buying fleet management software shouldn’t be looked at as an expense, especially when you know that your investment will quickly pay off. When your drivers can automatically know which routes are the best, they won’t need to pull over to look at their maps. Taking a more direct route will also allow them to drive for longer periods of time and get more rest. While fatigue can lead to accidents, a well rested driver is also more likely to be alert and aware of his or her surroundings. Sometimes you cannot prevent accidents from occurring, but an attentive driver will be able to react accordingly. After going a few months without any accidents you and your management team can begin to spend more money on acquiring new equipment and perhaps even open a new location. Everyone will benefit when you use fleet management software to assist your drivers and take some of the responsibilities off of your support staff.
